Dr. Gary Lau was invited by Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) to participate in a live Radio Program “精靈一點” for promoting stroke prevention.
Over the past 20 years in Hong Kong, cases of “young stroke” have increased by more than 30%. Stroke is the second leading cause of death worldwide. When it comes to saving a stroke patient, every second counts. 🕒
To prevent stroke, it is essential to control the “three highs”, especially high blood pressure. Staying up late, smoking, lack of exercise, and obesity will all increase the risk of stroke, and people at young age can also be affected.
If you suspect a stroke, time is brain: Remember the “BE-FAST" mnemonic, and watch out for:
B – Balance: dizziness, unsteadiness, loss of balance when walking
E – Eyes: sudden blurred vision, visual loss, or double vision
F – Face: drooping on one side of the face
A – Arms: numbness or weakness in the limbs
S – Speech: slurred speech, difficulty expressing oneself
T – Time: once any of the above signs are noticed, seek medical help immediately!
By learning how to respond, you can help seize the golden treatment window when a stroke occurs. Become a stroke first-aid ambassador together with your family!
