Queen Mary Hospital and the Ambulance Command, Fire Services Department, jointly launched a pilot scheme for pre-hospital stroke assessment in the Western District of Hong Kong Island in early 2018. Participating ambulance commanders reinforce the training of ambulancemen so that they recognize the symptoms and diagnose stroke by observing a patient’s ability to speak and express themself, as well as their facial expression and mobility. The ambulanceman records patient information such as age, blood pressure, time of symptom onset and medical history when stroke is suspected.
